Another great season

On Saturday, the Selma Recreation Department’s youth football season ended at Memorial Stadium.
Six teams played in championship games Saturday and three teams walked away as the city’s league champions.
But all sports, and in particular, youth sports, are about more than just winning or losing. We don’t know them all personally, but many of the coaches overseeing youth teams set great examples.
They teach our children good sportsmanship, no matter the final result, and make sure every player finds a way onto the field.
That’s what it’s all about.
Two of Saturday’s three games came down to the final possession and one of them was decided by only a few yards.
As expected, some of the players on the losing side were crying afterward. Sports take us on a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes faster than we can see it coming.
Nothing feels better than a win, but any kind of loss is hard to swallow.
We want to congratulate all of our city championship teams for their accomplishment this season.
Regardless of age, any kind of championship is hard to win.
We also want to thank the recreation department, coaches and parents for helping make the league a huge success.
Everybody involved has the same goal in mind — for our children to become better people through football.
