Santa will be making a trip to the Queen City soon for the annual city of Selma Christmas parade.

Landon Nichols, marketing coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce, said the parade is a great opportunity for the community to come together.

“The Christmas parade is a huge asset to our community,” Nichols said. “It draws in people, especially from out in the county, but also neighboring counties and really brings in people from all over the Black Belt region into Selma.”

The parade will take place on Broad Street on Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. with the theme “All Hearts Come Home for Christmas.”

Nichols said participating in the parade is great exposure for local businesses.

“Being in the parade is a great opportunity to get yourself some visibility,” Nichols said. “If you’re looking to get some exposure for your organization and really put your face out there in front of the community, there’s really no better way than the Christmas parade to do it.”

Nichols said everyone has a good time attending the event.

“It’s just a good time,” Nichols said. “It’s a really powerful way to get the entire community out together. Anytime we can get the community out onto the street and into downtown and really celebrating the joy of the season … it is a powerful thing.”

Nichols said those interested in participating in the parade can contact the Chamber at 875-7241 or stop by at 912 Selma Avenue.

A float is $20 per entry, a walking unit is $15, motorized vehicle is $15, emergency vehicle $10 and bike unit $10. All entries are due Monday, Nov. 28. A late fee of $100 will be charged after Nov. 28 and will only be accepted until Nov. 30.

Nichols said they are encouraging people to design floats this year and be creative.

“It’s a really fun way to showcase your organization or business but also it’s just fun for the spectators to watch the floats,” Nichols said.
