The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Central Alabama Farmer’s Co-Op, Alabama AG Credit, ALFA and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to hold the annual Farm City Week Breakfast Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 a.m.
Landon Nichols, destination and marketing coordinator for the Chamber, said the breakfast is a time for people that may not ordinarily come together to sit down and share a meal.
“I’m just really excited to bring the community together and bring together sections of the community that don’t necessarily get to sit at the same table,” Nichols said. “There’s certainly something to be said about breaking bread and that process and that activity being able to bring people together and have more meaningful dialog than they would otherwise.”
Nichols said he is looking forward to the breakfast, and the opportunities that it brings.
“It’s awesome. It’s always a good time when you get to see people from different stewards of influence coming together and networking and having conversations that can really, eventually improve both of their situations,” Nichols said. “We really just try to bring people together to the table from rural communities and people from more urban setting to be able to come together and discuss how we rely on each other and how each other is essential for the other to function.”
Paul Patterson, Dean of the Auburn University College of Agriculture and director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, will be the guest speaker at the event.
“We’re really excited to have him coming to speak to us and hopefully tell us a little more about that symbiotic relationship between rural and urban communities,” Nichols said.
“It’s incredible to have the dean of the agricultural school come down and his experience with the agricultural research station is going to be really fascinating to hear about. I’m just really excited to hear him and his perspective on just how our rural and urban partners depend on each other.”
Tickets for the breakfast are $10 and can be purchased by calling the Chamber at 875-7241 through Monday, Nov. 7.
