Voters should take advantage of chance to have their voice heard on election day

On Tuesday, Selmians will go to the polls to elect a new mayor, a new city council president and several seats on the city council and Selma City School Board.
Given the magnitude of this election, people should be lined up at polling locations around the city, jumping at the chance to cast a vote. Unfortunately, that isn’t usually the case in Selma, which has seen low voter turnout for most of its recent elections.
We’ve written it before, but we’ll keep saying it until something changes — If there’s anywhere that shouldn’t have low voter turnout, it’s here in Selma, where so many fought bravely for the right to have their voice heard.
The winners of Tuesday’s races will have a significant role in shaping the future of our city and that means people should want to vote.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Make sure to find a time to vote.
