After being closed in August, The Selma Art Guild is now having not one, but two shows for the public to enjoy.
The shows, titled “The Third Dimension” and “What’s Your Game” feature 3-D artwork in all mediums along with a sports and sportsman theme.
“What we did, is we put to the two together,” said Joanna Nicholas, co-president of the Selma Art Guild. “Whenever we have a show, we try and have something different, so it’s an interesting thing.”
Nicholas said each month the Guild has a new theme to keep artists on their toes and keep the community coming back to see what has changed.
“We try and have different subjects … so people use more of the imagination rather than just painting something because they like painting it,” Nichols said. “So you get a little bit of an independent feel rather than everybody bringing whatever they like to.”
This show features several new artists, including Leanna Leithauser Lesley, who primarily works in the needlepoint stitching but includes other formats as well.
“We’re really excited about having her because it’s somebody new, and she does things completely differently than to anybody that we’ve ever seen,” Nichols said. “It’s really fascinating.”
The show has sculptures, needlepoint stitching, painting, watercolor, photography and more, and Nichols said it is something new for everyone to see.
“Most of these are new pieces that people have not seen before,” she said.
The Art Guild is open on Friday and Saturday from 12-4 p.m. There is no admission and it is open to the public.
