Namon O’Neal “Duck” Hoggle, one of the oldest car dealers in Selma and the founder of Bama Motors, passed away Aug. 30, 2016, at the age of 81.

Duck came to Selma in February of 1953 and Selma has been his home since that time. Duck went into the car business in the early years with E.B. Vardaman of Selma Motors, at that time Powers Motors had been the only privately owned car lot in town. Later on, Duck bought Powers Motors and changed the name to Bama Motors.

Through his auto dealership business, Duck enjoyed friendships of many all over the Southeast, but made special mention of his friends in Montgomery who were like brothers to him. Duck wanted to express his love and appreciation for the special relationships he enjoyed with each of his friends.

Duck was also very thankful for the customers he was privileged to serve over the years. He said, even during the tough years the economy brought, he made it through because of his customers. Duck wanted to give the customers of Bama Motors his deepest and heartfelt gratitude.

Bama Motors is now in the hands of the third generation of family to carry on the tradition of service to the fine citizens of Selma. It is Duck’s sincere hope the legacy of great relations with customers and friends will continue with Bama Motors in his absence.

Duck was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Barnett Hoggle; parents, Oscar and Pearl Hoggle; brothers, Stanley Hoggle, Polly Hoggle and James Hoggle; sisters, Ruby Johnson and Annie Pearl Yeverlton; and son-in-law, Jerome Cosby.
