Busy Labor Day in Selma

There won’t be any fireworks in Selma on Labor Day, but the Blackbelt Benefit Group is making sure there’s still plenty to do.
The organization will host the Shuck ‘n’ Jive at the Old Depot Museum, which will feature oysters, drinks and live music from Paul Linden. The event starts at 6 p.m. and there’s no cover charge.
On Monday, the Central Alabama River Raft Race returns. Although no homemade rafts are allowed, the race figures to draw a big crowd on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The final meeting for competitors was Thursday night, but even if you aren’t racing, it’s going to be fun watching everyone in the water.
Plus, live music will be played at The Sand Bar after the race. The restaurant is serving as the race’s finish line.
The weekend figures to be a lot of fun. We hope everyone finds time to get to both events. The three-day weekend is the perfect time to relax, make some new friends and enjoy Selma.
