Mary Elizabeth Martin Rivers

Mary Elizabeth Martin Rivers, 94, passed away on August 24, 2016, in Johns Creek, Georgia. She was a 1938 graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. A longtime resident of Robertsdale, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Dickson Rivers and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Martin, Sr., brothers William Charles Martin Jr., Percy Martin, Fred Martin, and a sister, Mrs. Janet Martin Jackson. She is survived by sisters Mrs. Ruth Green of Fairhope; Mrs. Bernice Blackman of Mobile; and Mrs. Susan Turberville (Russ) of Fairhope. Survivors also include a daughter Nancy Carol Hunley (Alan) of Alpharetta, Georgia; a son, Clyde Everett Rivers (Betty) of Selma; and daughter Mary Susan Lewis (Larry) of Kingwood, Texas. Grandchildren include Brian Lee Hunley of Johns Creek, Georgia and Jeremy Arthur Hunley of Stephenson, Virginia; Margaret Anne Schilder (Andrew), Clyde Everett Rivers III, and Porter Lee Rivers, all of Birmingham; Jennifer Diane Lewis of Kingwood, Texas, David Ryan Lewis (Elizabeth) of San Angelo, Texas, and Michael Dylan Lewis of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandsons William Andrew Schilder and John Everett Schilder, both of Birmingham. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the Chapel at Pinecrest Cemetery in Mobile. Services will be at 10 a.m. with interment immediately thereafter. The family requests that donations in Mrs. Rivers name be made to the Robertsdale United Methodist Church in Robertsdale.
