Alvin “Al” Bryant

Alvin “Al” Bryant passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 88.  He was surrounded by his immediate family.

Alvin Bryant was born on December 27, 1927, in Sylacauga, Alabama.

On December 10, 1960, Alvin married Doris Sorteberg in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  Alvin was serving in the United States Air Force and stationed at Grand Forks Air Force Base. While there, the first daughter, Dianna was born.  Later, they transferred to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska where their youngest daughter, Joan was born.

They then transferred to Craig Field Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama where he retired with over 20 years served.  Alvin then joined the Selma Police Department in Selma, AL and served over 20 years before retiring in 1989.  Doris and Al then moved to Montgomery, Alabama and he worked as a Security Officer for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.  In 1992, they moved to Rochester, Minnesota and lived actively for over 24 years.  Alvin and Doris were active members of Northgate Health Club for 20 years.  Al leaves behind a legacy of lifelong friendships and cherished memories.

The family is very saddened by Alvin’s passing; however, they take great comfort in knowing that he is with his Lord and Savior.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Rascoe and Annie Lee; sister, Lophleigh (Bryant) Stone; brothers, Roy Lee Bryant and Cornelius Bryant.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Sorteberg Bryant, his children, Dianna Bryant-Sendek (Randy) of Rochester, MN, Joan Bryant-Mandler (David) of Rochester, MN and a brother, Buster Bryant (Juanita) of Sylacauga, AL, many other relatives and cherished friends.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Alvin Bryant will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, Minnesota.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Barrancas National Cemetary in Pensacola, Florida.
