Gloria Huey Crawford

Gloria Huey Crawford, 92, of Marion, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Southland Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church of Marion, with the Rev. Misty Barrett and the Rev. Jim Watters officiating. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, with Kirk Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Crawford was born July 26, 1924, in Headland, to George Bolling Huey Sr., and Vonceil Chancey Huey and grew up in Enterprise. She enrolled at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, and later met Marion Lawrence Crawford, a veterinary student at Auburn University. They married in 1943 and moved to Mobile where Dr. Crawford founded his veterinary practice. Mrs. Crawford played an integral role in the establishment and management of the Crawford clinic. In 1946, the Crawfords moved to Marion, where, once again, Mrs. Crawford assisted her husband in the operation of his new practice in Perry County, as well as helped superintend the family farm.

Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Margaret Lea Houston Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, which recognized her in 2014 for 65 years of active membership.

Mrs. Crawford was predeceased by her husband, her parents, brother, George Bolling Huey Jr., sister, Dr. Marion Huey Garrett, and son-in-law, Judge Richard Henry Dorrough.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Crawford Dorrough, of Montgomery, son, George Lawrence Crawford, of Marion, granddaughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Dorrough Pyron (Charles), of Auburn, and grandson, Bernell Lawrence Dorrough (Catherine), of Fairhope. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Catherine Crawford East and Charles Jackson East, of Auburn, and Eleanor Grace Dorrough, of Fairhope, and brothers-in-law William Walton Garrett, of Lake Junaluska, NC, and David Lamar Crawford (Dot), of Marion Junction.

Flowers will be gratefully received, or those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Gloria Huey Crawford Music Scholarship Endowment Fund, at Judson College in Marion.
