Iredrell Kittrell “Kit” Agee Jr was born to Iredrell K. Agee, Sr and Dorothy Dunn Agee on September 22, 1945. He was raised in Selma where he attended Albert G. Parrish High School (now Selma High School).

Kit Agee embarked on his later life as an educator at the University of Montevallo where he met the love of his life and wife of almost 50 years, Sabrah. Kit and Sabrah married and moved to Livingston, where Kit continued his education earning his master’s degree at Livingston University (now University of West Alabama).  During Kit’s matriculation, he and Sabrah grew their family, adding Kittrell III and Meegan.

In 1972, the Agee family moved to Marion when Kit found employment at Marion Elementary School, working with special needs children. Later, Kit became the 5th grade teacher where he remained for many years, positively influencing the lives of hundreds of students. Mr. Agee, as he was known, became a favorite teacher of many of his former students as has been evident by the outpouring of tributes following the news of his passing. He was also respected and admired by the faculty and staff of M.E.S.

When away from work, Kit indulged in his favorite pastimes of music and hunting. Kit developed a love for music as a young man and taught himself to play guitar. He purchased a Martin D28 acoustic guitar in 1968, which he played regularly until the end of his days. Kit entertained people of all ages and walks of life for years. He played guitar for his children while Sabrah sang around the house and was also a favorite at gatherings to play among his friends.

Kit became an avid outdoorsman a few years after moving to Marion and spent much of his leisure time in the woods and the hunting camp with many fellow hunters whom became his closest friends over the years.  His love of the outdoors did not replace his love of music as he was almost as often seen with a guitar over his shoulder as a hunting rifle while spending weekends at the camp.

The main constant in his life was his adoring wife, Sabrah. She sat beside him singing as he played guitar. She was known to accompany him to the hunting camp on occasion. Kit and Sabrah were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on February 6, 2017. Although, he did not live to see that blessed day, Sabrah was at his side when he took his last breath, until death they did part.

Kit Agee’s legacy continues in the lives of the now grown men and women whom he taught during their formative years. His influence is evident in the lives of his companions whom could regale you with myriad stories of how he had helped them. Most significantly, the love his surviving family feels for him is certainly telling of a man who was a loving husband, a tender father, a doting grandfather and a wonderful brother and brother-in-law.

As much as his influence is still here among us, there is still a void that he left when he passed from this world; one that only he could fill.  His warmth, his wit, and his benevolence can be remembered, but not sufficiently expressed in these words. He will be revered, respected and sorely missed.
