William Evans Hughes, 88, of Selma, passed away July 6, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jule Ann Raine Hughes; son, Robert Evans “Van” Hughes, II;  parents, Robert Evans and Ella Mae Hughes; brother, Robert Hughes; and brothers-in-law, Robert Wilson, Pete Gibbs and Robert E. Raine.

Surviving are his children, Wanda Hughes Burns (Stanley), William Franklin Hughes and Renee Hughes; sisters, Voncil Wilson and Juanita Shell (Randall); grandchildren, Lindsey Hughes McClerin, Robert Evans Hughes III, Ashley Marie Hughes (Jeremy Podjuban), Joel Austin Hughes (Janet), Evan Mason Hughes, Ryan Collin Hughes, Jennifer Renee Hughes and Lauren Elizabeth Hughes; great-grandchildren, Carmen, Michael, Brooke, Gavin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Monday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with his nephew,  Elder David Wilson officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hughes’ family members will serve as pallbearers.
