The Selma Welcome Center will extend its weekend hours starting next week.
The Welcome Center is open during the day Monday through Friday but has only been open on Saturday mornings.
Selma Mayor George Evans said volunteers and summer youth workers for the next few weeks will staff the additional hours.
The welcome center will now be open Saturday morning from 9 – 11 a.m. and afternoon from 1 – 5 p.m.
“A lot of people come to town on the weekends, we are going to institute that,” Evans said. “The main thing is to be open. They come across that bridge walking and talking every day.”
Councilman Greg Bjelke said the new hours are a great idea.
“I see people coming to Selma on the weekends, and they are pulling on doors and they are locked,” Bjelke said.
The Selma Welcome Center relocated to 14 Broad Street in spring 2015 and is now housed a building the city owns.
