Three charged in the Jermaine Tarver murder case will be moving forward in court while the hunt for the murder suspect continues. 

Selma residents 19-year-old Jalysa Shanjetti Turner, 21-year-old Kenatta Shantae Wilson and 18-year-old La’Darris Dees were charged in connection to the murder case of 27-year-old Jermaine Tarver, of Lowndesboro, and will soon move ahead with their cases in court.

“[Turner] waved her case to the grand jury and will be presented to a grand jury in the next couple of months,” said District Attorney Michael Jackson.

Turner and Wilson were each charged one count of first-degree hindering prosecution, a class B felony, for allegedly assisting 23-year-old murder suspect Vardarius Hall to escape Alabama.

Jackson said Wilson’s preliminary hearing is set for August, whereas Dees will appear for his preliminary hearing later this month.

Dees was charged with capital murder, attempting to commit murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

“They’re still looking for Vardarius Hall,” Jackson said.

On June 12, Tarver was outside playing cards in police jurisdiction of Towns Circle when approached by Hall about personal property. After the two exchanged some words, Hall retrieved a firearm and began shooting at Tarver, according to authorities.

Investigators believe when Hall was returning to the vehicle — which contained Dees, Turner and Wilson — Dees began shooting at a second victim who was attempting to aide Tarver.

After the shooting, authorities believe the two women drove Hall to Oklahoma and then to Florida.

Tarver was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. He died in the hospital’s emergency room from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso area.

The second victim reported no critical injuries.

Turner and Wilson were arrested two days later, when they returned to Selma, and Dees was taken into custody the following day.

Local investigators have sought the help of U.S. Marshals to apprehend Hall.
