Drought conditions are impacting areas of Northeast and Central Alabama due to low rainfall. The area impacted includes Dallas County.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham announced the conditions Friday, writing on its website that its drought monitor indicates severe drought conditions exist to the right of a line from Summit to Hayden to Talladega to Sulphur Springs to Mars Hill.

Moderate drought is indicated along and north of a line from Millport to Bessemer to Rockford to Auburn.

Abnormally dry conditions exist in the southern portion of central Alabama, which includes Dallas County, the city of Tuscaloosa, the southwestern portion of Perry County and the northern portion of Wilcox County. Selma is not included as part of the drought conditions.

The National Weather Service said below average rainfall in May has continued into June.

There doesn’t appear to be any rain in sight for Dallas County, which means it could be a precipitation-free Fourth of July weekend. The high temperature will reach the mid-90s Sunday and Monday. On Sunday and Monday there is a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.
