John J. Jernigan died on June 22, 2016, at the age of 98, surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Juanita “Skeeta” Culpepper Jernigan and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Davis.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 2 from 10-11 a.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in New Live Oak Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Light officiating.

Survivors include his daughter, Jo J. (Wayne) Liveoak; brother, Cecil (Gene) Jernigan; grandson, Bill (Ann) Davis; granddaughter, Kim (David) Beasley; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Davis and Emily Allen.

John was born January 9, 1918, in Tunnel Springs. He was in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII and saw combat in New Guinea, The Philippine Islands and Australia.

Pallbearers will be Bob Culpepper, Trey Culpepper, Pete Culpepper, Bobby Dees, Don Dees and Tim Wood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Multiple Sclerosis, Al-MS Chapter; 813 Shades Creek Parkway, Suite 100B, Birmingham, Alabama 35209, for a Memorial for John Jernigan or one’s favorite charity.
