Selma High School will be hosting its second annual Cheerleading Youth Camp beginning July 18. Boys and girls ages 2 to middle school age are invited to participate. The camp will cover basic cheerleading skills and techniques like cheers, stunts, facial expressions and showmanship.

“The young ladies who attended our camp last year were able to become Lady Saints, where they performed with us for homecoming, for the parade and for the game,” said Chimeria Evans, Selma High School’s cheerleading coach.

Evans, assistant coach Eshwaa Godfrey and the Selma High School cheerleaders will be the instructors for the camp. She expects a good turnout but is hoping that more boys will try to participate this year since there have been some that have shown interest in cheerleading.

The camp will take place over the course of a four day week, July 18-21, and wraps up with a showcase on the last day. The showcase will exhibit everything the camp participants learned and parents are invited to watch the performance.

Awards will also be given out based on each participant’s performance throughout the week.

Evans looks forward to working with the participants, getting to know them and seeing them grow as leaders through cheerleading.

Anyone interested is encouraged to register for the camp by July 1, so that T-shirts can be ordered and have time to be delivered.

The total cost is $50 in addition to a $25 registration fee, but if campers would like a T-shirt it will be $60 and the additional $25 for registration.
