The city of Selma will be featured on WSFA during the Olympics after the council approved a $34,000 ad buy.

Mayor George Evans brought the idea before the council during Tuesday night’s meeting.

The advertising will be paid for from savings out of the office of planning and development and tourism, according to Evans.

The city has not filled former director of planning and development James Benderson’s position since last summer and tourism director Ashley Mason’s position was open from August through May.

Evans said he understands the ads would be shown all over the country.

“I think that’s a plus for our city,” Evans said. “I think we are going to be really proud.”

The 2016 Summer Olympics from Rio, Brazil will begin on Friday, Aug. 5 and end on Sunday, Aug 21.
