Farmers market to open up this weekend
Published 9:48 pm Thursday, June 2, 2016
The farmers market will open for the first time this year on Saturday morning. The market is always a big draw, as a handful of local farmers sell local, homegrown produce.
Not only does the market give locals a chance to eat healthier, but it also gives everyone a chance to support local farmers. Giving back to the farmers means that the money stays here within Selma and Dallas County, and we know it’ll pay off because many of the people who sell at the market come back each and every year.
Buying fruits and vegetables at the market means getting them at their peak — as tasty and fresh as they get.
The market will open at 6 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through the fall.
This weekend’s first opening will also include a special plant sale that has been organized by the Alabama Master Gardeners and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Assorted potted plants, vegetables, trees, flowers and other garden items and tools will be available.
We encourage everyone to give the farmer’s market a visit this weekend. Even if you’ve gone before, there might be something different available this time around.
It’s a great chance to support local families and to get fresh foods.
