Friday night when my umpire husband returned from the 13-14 year old game at the City Park, he relayed this refreshing story. He said one of the coaches came to him and said that a batter who was challenged with autism was going to be coming to the plate. He indicated they were just having the ball lobbed to him underhanded, hoping it would be easier for him to hit. The opposing pitcher came up close to the batter and proceeded to throw underhanded pitches and after a couple of strikes, the batter hit one which went toward the pitcher who slung it on past first base. The batter was able to run all the bases to the cheering of the crowd on both sides.  That story warmed my heart more than many of the stories I am told by my umpire after the games. It was so great of both teams to give this young man his moment of glory, it was so loving and caring, it was so Selma. Thankful for the Selma City League and coaches who consider the needs of their players and set good examples for life. Batter up!
