Just over a month ago, Frank and Kim Reynolds needed to raise $30,000 to adopt two Ukrainian orphans to their home. Now, they are only roughly $10,000 from making that goal a reality.

The Reynolds family will hold a charity golf tournament at the Valley Grande Golf Course Thursday at 9 a.m. The tournament is a three-man scramble and costs $70 per person to enter. The proceeds will go toward helping the Reynolds family with adoption expenses.

The Reynolds found the 15-year-old and 14-year-old Ukrainian sisters, Estella and Zlata, through a ministry called Bridges of Faith. The ministry brings groups of Ukrainian orphans to a 140-acre retreat center in Chilton County, and Frank, Kim and their daughter Emily made an instant connection with the sisters.

Frank said there hasn’t been many people pre-registering for the tournament, but he expects a lot to register on site the day of the tournament. He has already gotten support from many local businesses. At least 20 businesses have already agreed tosponsored the event.

events, including the Dallas County Horse Show and the Central Alabama Crawfish Festival, to raise money for the adoption.

“Fundraising is going wonderful, Frank said. “The community has really come together and helped tremendously. There have been people step up and give donations and help out in a big way.”

For the tournament, there will be multiple opportunities to receive prizes and money. The first place prize will be $500 and second place will receive $300.

If a golfer hits a hole-in-one on a select hole, that golfer will earn $1,000. There will also be longest drive contests, closest to the pin and inside the circle.

For the inside the circle competition, there will be a $10 entry fee. Mulligans are $5 and there is a limit of two per person.

In addition, there will be raffle tickets for sale to enter for a free lawnmower, donated by Alabama Power. Lunch and drinks will be provided.

Frank said he is hoping to raise a good amount of money through the golf tournament, but he doesn’t have a specific goal in mind.

“Whatever God blesses us with,” Frank said.

A day after the golf tournament, on Friday, the Reynolds will host a family skate night at the Selma Skating Rink to continue to raise money to cover their adoption costs.
