The Morgan Academy track and field team hosted roughly 15 schools to compete in a track meet Monday at Memorial Stadium, and there were plenty of Senators who placed in events.

Morgan’s Davis Campbell was the lone Senator to take home first place at an event, as he finished the 3200-meter race in 12:14.

A host of Morgan girls came in second in various track events. In the 4×200 relay, Emily Strickland, Jane Anne Stewart, Laney Holladay and Averee Adams placed second with a 2:05 finish time.

In the 100-meter dash, Peyton Ellen Granthum took home second place with a time of 12.9 seconds.

Jaycee Sanders finished second place after she ran 3200 meters in 15:12.

In addition to Campbell’s victory, the boys also notched a pair of third place finishes. Sam Brackin came in third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.24 seconds. In the shotput, John Tyler Fisher placed third with a distance of 39”5’.

“When you’re placing in the top two or three among that many teams, that’s not bad,” said Morgan head coach Rob Robinson.

Robinson said he did not know the team results after the meet had ended. He also said he thought Brackin may have placed in the long jump and Anna Laken Tidmore may have placed in the 800-meter race, but those results and times were not recorded.

Robinson was glad to see so many of his athletes do well, and he is optimistic for the future.

“These track meets are just sort of putting the pieces of the puzzle together. You’re trying different things and getting ready for the only one that really matters,” Robinson said.
