Joseph Austin

Mr. Joseph Allan Austin, 96, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, March 25, 2016. Mr. Austin was born August 6, 1919, in Suttle to Benjamin Franklin and Mary Bennett Austin.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Lillian Lockhart Austin; his parents; siblings, Jimmie Austin, Rebecca Austin, Kathleen Bond, Polly Schultz, Frank Austin, Myrtis Austin and twin sister Allie Austin; grandson, Zachary A. Austin; and son-in-law, J. Stephen Jackson. He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Lillian (Danny) Hannigan, Mary Wanda Jackson; son, Benjamin A. (Vickie) Austin; grandsons, Joseph A. (Maegan) Austin, Christopher Daniel (Yavonna) Hannigan; granddaughter Rachael A. (Brian) Costas; and great-grandchildren Madyson and Trevyn Hannigan.

Mr. Austin served as a Tech. Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the China, Burma and India theater of operations. He was retired from civil service at Craig Air Force Base and McDonalds. Mr. Austin was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church, serving in many capacities and retiring from active church service as Deacon Emeritus only when physically hindered in his late 80s.

He was a loving, gentle and humble man whose life has provided a positive impact and witness for many. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Services will be held Tuesday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev.Ken Blake and the Rev. Kenny Hatcher officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Joe Austin, Chris Hannigan, Bruce Hutton, Bob Phillips, Jack Smith, Terry Hughes, Berry Vines and Norman Copeland.
