Moore hits grand slam, Selma softball wins

Charmekia Moore hit an in-the-park grand slam and had six RBIs Friday to lead Selma past Autaugaville 16-3.

Moore also had a triple for the Saints, who improved to 3-1 on the year. Alishya Thomas had two triples and two RBIs and Alashya Manuel had two singles and scored four runs for Selma. Saints’ pitcher Dajah Thrash threw seven strikeouts and only walked one batter in five innings of work. She pitched a complete game.

WCCS Baseball loses to Lurleen B. Wallace

Wallace Community College Selma struggled to get its bats going against Lurleen B. Wallace Thursday in a 12-2 loss. Joseph Calvert went two for three with one RBI and a home run. Joseph Simonetti went one for three with an RBI as well. Corey Lowe, Kyle Friday, and Sloan Tyler all had one hit in the game. Tanner Thomason was the starting pitcher for the Patriots. Thomason went for three innings and gave up six runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Will Harrell came into the game in the fourth inning. Harrell gave up four runs on two hits with three walks and one strikeout. Joseph Calvert came to the mound in the fifth inning. Calvert gave up one run on one hit.

MMI to play Mclennan in NJCAA Tournament

Marion Military Institute will play McLennan in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I national championship men’s basketball tournament on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played in Hutchinson, Kansas.
