The Selma Charity League is getting ready for its annual signature project, which will benefit the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.

This year the league will be hosting a pirates and princess themed pancake breakfast.

“A lot of us utilize the library in the summer. Some of us are teachers and see that our students utilize the service too,” said project coordinator Laura Whitney Howorth. “It’s just a great way to get involved with the community and the library puts in so much work and effort into summer program.”

Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Children are encouraged to dress up as a pirate or princess. Pancakes, sausage and fruit will be served. Muffins and coffee will be available for parents.

Each year the charity league picks a new fundraiser and a new charity to benefit. Last year they had a yard sale benefiting Grow Selma.

This year’s project event includes fun activities for children such as a treasure hunt, tattoo station and a photo booth.

Howorth said high school volunteers will be dressed up in costume, operating booths, greeting children and taking photos.

“Some of them are in different activities and pageants and their platforms are literacy,” she said. “So this kind of goes hand in hand. “

As they arrive, children will be given a sword and eye patch or a tiara and wand.

“They’ll get all kinds of pirate garb,” Howorth said.

Tickets were sold $20 per child. Parents and children ages 1 and under do not need a ticket. Howorth said tickets needed to be purchased in advance, but there are a few available. She said if anyone else is interested in participating contact a league member.
