The deadline for the City of Selma’s Baseball and Softball League registration is quickly approaching, and city baseball director Jamie Tellier is hoping many more kids sign up before it’s too late.

“Registration is not over yet, but it’s getting close to the end so we’re hoping more kids come in,” Tellier said.

The deadline to register for the city league is Feb. 15. Roughly 400 children have signed up for baseball and softball far, but Tellier said it’s better that people don’t wait until the last minute to register.

“The sooner the kids sign up, the sooner I can get everything set up for the draft and the sooner we can get all the information out to the parents about all the important dates for the upcoming season,” Tellier said.

Registration takes place Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Selma’s recreation department office. The registration will also be open Saturday, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. – noon.

All players, regardless of if they are returning, must be registered by an adult and must pay a $10 fee. The registration fee is non-refundable and is mandatory to play in the league.

In addition to the $10 fee, a birth certificate or other form of identification that show’s the participant’s date of birth is required. Once registration closes, the players will be split into age groups of 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. The Dixie majors will be ages 15 and up. Tellier said he doesn’t know how many teams there will be just yet.

Before the season begins on April 2, the league will hold camps for each age group instead of holding tryouts. A baseball camp will be held Feb. 20 at the Sportsplex and a softball camp will be Feb. 27 at the Complex.

Once the players are drafted and placed on their teams, they will have about three weeks of practice before the season begins. In addition to more players, Tellier said he is also looking for more coaches. There will be a second coaches meeting held Monday at Memorial Stadium. The baseball coaches meeting will start at 6 p.m. and the softball coaches meeting will start at 7 p.m.

“We had a good coaches meeting and we had a pretty good turnout, but we still do need some volunteer coaches,” Tellier said. “So if anyone’s interested, they need to come talk to me.”

Valley Grande baseball and softball registration coming soon

The city of Valley Grande will hold registration for its little league baseball and softball season on Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19.

Registration forms are available now at Valley Grande City Hall, but all players are asked to attend the registration day as well so that they can be sized for uniforms. The cost per participant is $45 for T-ball and coach pitch and $50 for player pitch. Those fees cover uniforms, which will include hat, shirt, pants and socks.

Checks should be payable to the city of Valley Grande. Parents will need to fill out a registration form, sign a proof of insurance waiver and bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate, even if the player has participated in the league before.

Practices will begin in early March.
