The Selma Rotary Club will celebrate 100 years of service to the community Feb. 25.

McNair Ramsey, chairman of the club’s anniversary celebration committee, has been a member of the club for more than 20 years.

“I’m a part of this organization because of the things that it stands for and the things that it does. The club strives to help others, not only in our community but throughout the world,” Ramsey said.

The club has fulfilled its motto of “Service Above Self” through student scholarships, book drives and support for the Salvation Army, Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Sabra Sanctuary, the YMCA and many other organizations.

Selma Rotary Club President Manera Searcy has been a member of the club since 2008. She is a third-generation Rotarian, following in the footsteps of her grandfather and father.

“I’ve really enjoyed it. Our purpose is service. It is our first goal,” Searcy said. “We are really proud to have 100 years in Selma. We hope that people will come out to celebrate.”

A presentation on the club’s history and remarks from guest speaker Barry Cavan, district president-elect of the Montgomery Rotary Club, will be a big part of the celebration.

The club will also present a Citizen of the Year for Selma and Dallas County. Past Rotarians, community leaders, and friends and family members are all welcomed to attend.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased from any Selma Rotary Club member or at Butler-Truax Jewelers, First Cahawba Bank on Citizens Parkway, the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Trustmark Bank.

This evening will feature a catered dinner of filet mignon, salad, potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert, water, coffee and tea.

Guest should dress semi-formal or black-tie optional.

The celebration will take place at 6 p.m. the George P. Evans Reception Hall located at 2 Lawrence Street in Selma.
