With 28 attractions and 40 events to choose from, it’s time for Selma residents to support their favorite attraction and event for the 2015 Tourism Awards.
The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce finished ballots for the second annual Tourism Awards on Jan. 12 on posted them on their Facebook page.
Sheryl Smedley, executive director of Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, said residents can vote once a day, every day until voting is closed Jan. 22 .
To vote, people will be required to select a nominee for each category as well as explain why the event or attraction should win the award.
Smedley said the comment portion will help events better accommodate to attendees in the future.
“It’s just for us to know and to see what people like about that event so we can feed it back to event planners for future planning,” Smedley said.
Last year Integrity Worldwide 5k won the Event of the Year and Old Cahawba Archaeological Park won the Attraction of the Year.
Smedley said last year’s winners are eligible for nomination and winning this year.
Smedley said last year they announced the winners during the Center of Commerce’s annual meeting later this month.
That will be different this year. She said this year they will be announcing the 2015 Tourism Award winners through social media and a press release after Feb. 1.
In addition to publicity and title, winners will receive a trophy.
