According to the 2010 census, there are 9,429 housing units in Selma.

Mayor Evans estimates 700-800 households have registered for exemption but believes many more qualified.

The deadline for exemption was Dec. 31, 2015. People who qualify for exception are those whose household’s sole source of income is Social Security benefits.

Evans said people who have missed deadline for exemption will have to pay for services.

The deadline for garbage disposal registration is Thursday. Sea Coast disposal will be delivering carts beginning Friday.

Green said people can still register for services by filling out the form that is available online and turning it in with the $40 payment at the Sea Coast Disposal office. Forms are also available at their temporary office located on 521 Bell Road. Green said they are expecting to transition to the permanent location at 212-B Highland Ave. during the week. Office hours for both locations are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The first payment of $40 will cover the months of February and March. Payments afterwards will be $60 quarterly. Evans encourages residents to register by deadline or risk a summons to court.
