Registration for the City of Selma’s Baseball and Softball League starts Tuesday, Jan. 12 at the recreation department office at Memorial Stadium.

All players, regardless if they are returning, must be registered by an adult and must pay a $10 fee. The registration fee is non-refundable and is mandatory to play in the league.

To register a child, a birth certificate or a form of identification that shows the player’s date of birth is necessary.

“The great thing with baseball that you don’t have to do with football, is the child does not need to be present,” Tellier said. “We do need the child’s birth certificate but the child doesn’t need to be present because there isn’t a weight [limit] like there is with football.”

Last year there were between 60 and 70 teams in the league, which equates to about 800 kids. Tellier is expecting at least that many to play this year, if not more.

The recreation department will also be asking for each child’s shirt size.

Registartion will take place Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Selma’s recreation department office. Registration will also take place on Saturday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Tellier said he recommends that people don’t wait until the last minute because nearly 1,000 players are expected to register.

“If you have a lunch break come on, it’ll take 10 minutes, depending on how many people we have in here,” Tellier said.

“A lot of people are going to wait until the last minute, so chances are if you wait until the last minute, you are going to be waiting for a little while.”
