The good times are rolling back to town come late January.
The city of Selma and Downtown Selma Association will be hosting the second annual Mardi Gras celebration including a charity masquerade ball, parade and festival.
“What are trying to do is bring back the flavor of Mardi Gras in the city of Selma,” said city council president Corey Bowie.
Bowie said residents can come out and have fun without having to leave town.
The charity masquerade ball will kick off the celebrations on Friday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m at the George Patrick Evans Reception Hall.
Tickets are $20 and available at City Hall and the Mayor’s Office. Limited tickets will be available at the door.
The ball is formal or semi-formal attire and will include live entertainment, food and drinks.
Bowie said that a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to local charities.
The Mardi Gras parade will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, beginning at 10 a.m. on Broad Street.
Bowie said moon pies, beads and candy will be passed out during the parade.
The festival will be held on Water Avenue immediately following the parade.
Mayor George Patrick Evans said that the festival will include games and activities for children as well as live entertainment and food.
Bowie said that although last year was successful in being the first year having the Mardi Gras celebrations, they are looking to improve the event.
“This year we are looking for bigger and better things.” Bowie said.
Bowie said they are encouraging local businesses, schools and other local agencies to participate in the parade and festival.
Bowie said both the parade and festival will be wholesome fun for the entire family and of people of all ages.
