The Blackbelt Benefit Group will be hosting its third annual Art Jam tonight at the Walton Theater.
“If you haven’t seen live music in there, it’s a beautiful place to hear music,” said Clay Carmichael, Blackbelt Benefit Group member, “The acoustics are unbelievable.”
Art Jam kicks off at 6 p.m. featuring works by local artists. The music is set to start at 7 p.m.
“Our group is centered around music and fellowship, so it started to bring some unique artists and up-and-coming artists that people otherwise wouldn’t get to see in the Selma area,” said Paul Wilkerson, Blackbelt Benefit Group committee member.
Wilkerson said Art Jam has been successful in the first two years, reaching full capacity at the Walton Theater.
This year’s music line-up includes Will Kimbrough with Grayson Capps and Corky Hughes and Dead Fingers.
Wilkerson said local artists will be selling their art during the event, and it’s a great time to do some last minute Christmas shopping.
The art portion of the event is free to the public and general admission tickets for the concert are $25.
Carmichael said that proceeds from Art Jam will go towards Grow Selma, a non-profit organization whose interests include educating the community on healthy and sustainable foods at their Mill Village Community Garden.
