A program at Selma High School this week gave second and fifth grade students the chance to thank hundreds of everyday heroes who impact their lives every day.
The program was hosted by the Liberty Learning Foundation and allowed students to give speeches and present pins of appreciation to teachers, janitors and firefighters who are a part of the foundation’s “super citizens” program.
As part of the program, students are asked to look around the community for people who are making a difference in Selma on a daily basis. Each class then works to nominate their hero and to find a way to honor that person.
It’s a great program that teaches students the importance of all types of jobs, whether it be police officers or those doing janitorial work.
There are so many people in our community who are working hard to make Selma a great place to live, whether that is by keeping us safe, teaching hard in the classroom every day or by doing volunteer work on the weekends.
We are proud of the second and fifth grade students for finding a way to recognize many of these heroes, who often do not get the recognition they deserve.
Prrograms like Wednesday’s will hopefully encourage the next generation of students to make a difference in our community when they are adults.
