The musical group Majestic Voices and the Saved Girls Rock service organization will give back to local children in need this Christmas season through a toy drive.
Erica England, a member of Saved Girls Rock, shared insight on the project’s vision.
“We are trying to do different things in the community. We realize that there are many families who are in need here in Dallas County,” England said. “We are just trying to find ways as a Christian organization to help those that are in need.”
That goal is shared by the other founders of Saved Girls Rock, Nikita McMillian and Shemika Morgan.
“Saved Girls Rock is actually based on targeting young females of ages 7 and up. The world is showing them so many different things and a lot of times these children are getting trapped,” England said.
Saved Girls Rock also focuses on steering young women to Christianity.
“We want to inform young girls and women that you can still be a Christian, know God, love God and still have fun. We are just trying to get young women introduced into knowing who God is and how much more fulfilling their lives would be if they would allow God to be a part of it,” England said.
Although Saved Girls Rock is a group that primarily reaches out to young women, England said that they would like to get something started for young men in the near future.
About 25 toys have been donated since the start of the toy drive Dec. 9. The group is asking people of the community to donate toys for newborn girls and boys up to age 17. They have designated two locations for drop-off: Sweet Advantage Ice Cream Shop, which is located on 100 Broad St., and Miller Funeral Home, which is located on 608 St. Phillips St. Both locations will be accepting toys until Dec. 21.
Saved Girls Rock will also be Christmas caroling at the Lighthouse Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and Park Place Nursing Homes on Dec. 22-23.
England encourages those who know of any families who are in need to contact Saved Girls Rock at (334) 267-6006.
