Letter addresses column about park

I am writing to address an issue raised by James G. Smith in Wednesday Dec. 2, 2015 Selma Times-Journal in his columnist article.
I think that if Jim had done his research before he penned this article — which he admitted he had not done — he would not have made the irresponsible statements and implications he made relative to Grist Park. I doubt seriously that many people would agree that the state park would well have been left pad locked. Over 2,000 people have joined a Facebook page called Save Paul Grist Park.
To suggest that I or the Dallas County Commission would use funds that were dedicated to maintain roads offends me.
The operation of Camp Grist will be very cost efficient. We have an agreement with one of the men who was working there who has retired to continue with the county. Plus we have a list of scores of volunteers to cut grass, clear trails and do light maintenance. I feel sure that revenue generated through gate fees, boat renting, camping rental, fishing fees, horseback riding, etc. that we can operate at least a break even budget.
I welcome Jim or anyone else to contact me about the details of Grist Park, I am very proud of the commission for their support in re-opening Grist Park.
