Decision shows that local, state government can work together to solve problems

Just weeks after being closed due to budget cuts, Paul Grist State Park will reopen Thursday morning when state officials give the Dallas County Commission control of the park.
Terms of a long-term lease are not yet available, but should be announced Thursday during a ceremony held to celebrate the park reopening. The decision shows that government can work together at the local and state levels and that if enough people want to get something done, it can happen quickly.
The Dallas County Commission announced early on that it would fight to get control of the park. Many locals let their opinions be known — whether it be by camping at the park the final night or by joining the “Save Paul Grist State Park” Facebook page.
This is a win for everyone in Selma and Dallas County because the park is a tremendous resource where families can spend an afternoon together and enjoy the outdoors.
However, it also should show the importance of using that resource.
We encourage everyone to visit the park, whether it be Thursday for the reopening or in the near future, just to celebrate that it is back open and available to the public.
