Margie Burk isn’t sure of where the Victorian sleigh in front of the Sturdivant Museum came from.

Therefore, she said, it must have come from the North Pole.

For the first time, Sturdivant Hall is bringing out a sleigh this Christmas season to serve as a photo-op station at the museum.

The sleigh has been in storage for a while, and Christmas decorating committee coordinator Burk said she had the idea to take it out this year and put it to good use.

Since it is unknown how long the sleigh has been there or where it came from, Burk and others are referring to it as “Santa’s sleigh.”

“My grandkids’ eyes just popped,” Burk said. “They were like, ‘Really?’ And then they go and tell all their friends that they saw Santa’s sleigh.”

The sleigh is decorated with magnolia, pine, yew and berries. The seat of the sleigh is draped in black velvet.

A photo-op in front of the sleigh will first be available during the Artisans Fair Saturday. It will also be available Dec. 4 and 5 during the Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No professional photography is allowed.

Membership to the museum can be acquired by visiting the museum. It costs $35 for a single membership, $50 for families and $100 to become a patron. Members receive 10 percent off purchases in the gift shop and are invited to attend the Association’s Members Christmas Gala Dec. 2.
