When it comes to giving back to the community, members of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church know that animals need love too.

Members of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church donated $500 to the Central Alabama Humane Society Monday to assist animals in need. Ann Fuller, president of Women of the Church at Cornerstone Presbyterian, and church member Jackie Woodfin, spearheaded the operation.

Fuller said choosing to support the Humane Society was a no brainer for her and the members of Women of the Church.

“The biggest reason why we do it is because Jesus calls us to be stewards of the earth and anything in it and that includes our four-legged friends,” Fuller said.

The money provided the Humane Society with many necessary items including leashes, collars, cat litter and dog food. With those items paid for, Central Alabama Humane Society president Kaye Knight said she can focus on the veterinary needs of the animals in the shelter.

Fuller said that she personally loves animals, and her choice to give to the animal shelter was in part to help animals that haven’t received proper love in the past.

“Animal abuse and animal cruelty does go on, and anything we can do to help, we do that out of love,” Fuller said.

The Cornerstone Presbyterian Church provided money to help the Humane Society, but Knight encourages everyone to simply show up and help out at the shelter however they can.

“You don’t have to give any money. You can just give your time. And we really appreciate it,” Knight said.
