A Selma man faces assault charges after shooting another man in the back during an argument.
Ollie Darnell James faces one count of first-degree assault. He was arrested Wednesday morning after turning himself in at the Selma Police Department.
Authorities say a 33-year-old man was shot Friday night in the 300 block of Grey Street.
During their investigation, officers learned the victim had gotten into a verbal altercation with James. During that argument, the victim told investigators that James pulled out a handgun and fired into the air.
“The victim advised that he was walking away and turned to reply to the verbal assault when another shot was fired hitting him in the lower back,” said Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department.
Muhannad said investigators don’t know what the two men were arguing over.
The victim was transported by a private vehicle to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
James turned himself after learning there was a warrant out for his arrest, according to Muhannad.
He was booked and taken to the Dallas County Jail, where he made a $150,000 bond. First-degree assault is a Class felony.
