Christopher Gardner scored 20 points for the R.B. Hudson Bulldogs (1-0) as they defeated the Demopolis Tigers (0-1) 44-26. Head coach Javonne Roman said defense was key in allowing the Bulldogs to win by a sizeable margin.

“The defense really came out strong for the few days that we’ve been practicing,” Roman said. “They just came out there really intense.”

The Bulldogs led from the onset, holding off Demopolis from making a comeback the entire game. Javonte’ Stubbs added 8 points and Lamarcus Jackson scored 6 points.

Just one game in, Roman is already giving his team high praise.

“Selma High is probably going to have some gems in the future,” Roman said.
