20-year-old shot multiple times in botched robbery

A 20-year-old Selma man was shot multiple times during a botched robbery late Sunday night.

According to Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Marie Foster Street Sunday around 11:15 p.m. in reference to a shooting victim.

“When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke with an Asian male, age 20, suffering from three gunshot wounds to his genital area,” Muhannad said in a press release.

Muhannad said the victim was exiting his vehicle at his residence when an unknown male confronted him with a gun and demanded money.

“The victim advised that he attempted to disarm the suspect before being shot three times,” Muhannad said. “After he was shot, the suspect ran away and the victim was able to make it to his residence to call for help.”

According to Muhannad, the victim was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center for immediate treatment and was later transferred to a Birmingham hospital for further medical care.

The suspect has yet to be identified, and no arrest has been made as of Monday evening.

According to Muhannad, the 20-year-old victim is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

According to incident reports from Halloween weekend, two other shootings with victim were reported.

One was reported Friday night from Vaughan Regional Medical Center at 9:15 p.m., and another was reported Sunday at 8:57 p.m. on the 200 block of Lindberg Avenue.

The details on the other two shootings have not been released by the Selma Police Department at this time.

The Selma Police Department is asking anyone that may have seen what happened or has knowledge of what happened to call Crime Stoppers at 874-2588 or the Criminal Investigation Division at 874-2125.

Calls will be kept confidential and a cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
