Selma Police Department catches alleged burglars in act

Multiple burglars were caught red handed Thursday by the Selma Police Department.

A total of four arrests were made from two separate burglaries that happened Thursday morning.

Twenty-one-year-old Quentin James Davis Jr. was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a home on Eighth Avenue, and three juveniles were arrested for allegedly burglarizing a home on Alabama Highway 14 East.

Davis was charged with second-degree burglary, unlawfully carrying a pistol without a permit and third-degree theft of property. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail with bonds totaling $37,000.

Two of the juveniles were charged with third-degree burglary and the other was charged with third-degree receiving stolen property.

According to Sgt. Evelyn Ghant with the Selma Police Department, officers were dispatched to the first burglary around 9:40 a.m. Thursday to the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue in reference to a burglary in progress.

When officers arrived on scene they saw a black male, who was later identified as Davis, walking toward Ninth Avenue. Davis allegedly hid under a house on Ninth Avenue, but was found by police.

Officers then surrounded the house and ordered him to show his hands and come out from underneath the house.

When Davis showed himself, he was carrying a 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun.

He was then arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail.

Two televisions and a PlayStation 3 gaming console were recovered that belonged to the victim.

Officers with the Criminal Investigation Division were dispatched to the second burglary a couple of hours later around 11:45 a.m. to the 2000 block of Alabama Highway East.

A 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old male were taken into custody and charged with third-degree burglary, and another 16-year-old was charged with third-degree receiving stolen property.

Officers were able to recover two flat screen televisions and an I-pad from multiple locations.
