Hunting for good time

Anyone who doubts the success of the Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Wild Game Cook-off would have some crow to eat. Coincidentally, crow was one of the dishes being served up in Thursday’s competition.

The event set a record for number of teams participating as well as turnout. The cook-off has grown every year and drew participants from as far away as Montgomery and Lake Martin.

While a duck dish won first place honors and the crow curry kabobs made for an obvious pun, others options include turkey tamales, alligator boudin, catfish beignets and many more.

Outdoor recreation, hunting and fishing mean millions of dollars each year to our local economy. That impact and popularity is evident through events like the wild game cook-off.

It’s great for Selma to have this event in our downtown every fall. Kudos to Tim Wood and others who helped organize the cook-off this year.
