The Morgan Academy volleyball season came to an end Tuesday evening in the first round of the class AA, region 2 tournament.

The Senators fell to Bessemer Academy 25-22, 10-25, 10-25, 11-25 in the first round of the tournament.  Bessemer advanced to face Coosa Valley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal match of the region tournament.

The remaining games in the tournament will be for seeding purposes only as all four teams will advance to the Alabama Independent School Association’s Elite 8.

Morgan Academy head coach Caroline Averitt could not be reached for comment.

Many other area teams have not started postseason play yet.

Alabama High School Athletic Association teams will play their area tournaments next week.

Meadowview Christian will participate in the Alabama Christian Athletic Association state tournament Friday and Saturday in Oxford.
