Charles Furlow Jr.

Charles Furlow Jr. transitioned on Oct. 6, 2015. He was born on Nov. 18, 1923, in Selma, to Charles Furlow Sr. and Pinkie Lee Irby Furlow. He was the oldest of four children, Charles, Cherry, Henry and Agnes.

He attended school at Knox Academy and Selma University. He joined the military at an early age and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He later joined the Army, where he served during the Korean War.

He was married to Bertharine George and this union produced four children, Gloria A., Agnes M., Charles H. and the late Lawrence A.

He moved to Chicago, where he married his partner in life, Susie Pete Furlow

Charles worked at the UPS distribution center for many years.

Charles Jr. leaves a loving family to celebrate his life; a beloved wife, Susie, brother, Henry Furlow of Montgomery, sister, Agnes Furlow Hatcher of Selma, children, Gloria A. (Charles) Smith of Selma, Agnes M. Furlow of Phenix, and Charles H. (Doris) Furlow of River Forest, Ill., grandchildren, Edward Smith, Sadira E. Furlow, Chaina C. Smith, Stuart L. (Amber) Furlow, Kevin Jackson and Muraguri Kariuki; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015. at Cage Memorial Chapel in Chicago.
