Selma will join dozens of cities across the country in participating in Q Commons, a conference that offers people a chance to listen to speakers from various backgrounds.
The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Central Alabama Farmers Co-op conference room.
More than 80 cities and 10,000 people are expected to participate in the simultaneous conversation about how to advance good in our communities.
National speakers will include author Os Guinness, who will speak about getting along despite differences, and Dr. Caroline Leaf, a cognitive neuroscientist and communication pathologist who will talk about “Why Thoughts Matter.”
There will also be a roundtable on valuing human life with Compton, Calif. Mayor Aja Brown, Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly and Catherine Davis with the National Black Pro-life coalition.
Local speakers will be District Judge Robert Armstrong, architect Richard Hudgens and Jerria Martin with Circle of Hope Ministries.
“It’s not often we have the opportunity to come together with our neighbors, friends and colleagues to be informed,” said Rev. Mike Lewis, who is organizing the event.
Tickets to the event are $29 ($49 for married couples). Reservations can be made online at QCommons.com/Selma.
