Marvin V. Hobson

The seasons of life for Marvin V. Hobson began on Nov. 8, 1945, at the family farmhouse in the unincorporated Madison County, Mississippi community of Farmhaven.
He grew up in the Leake County, Mississippi community of Ofahoma. He matriculated in the public schools of Leake County, Mississippi and graduated from O.E. Jordan High School in 1963. Marvin was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as an Army Medic. He received an honorable discharge in 1967.
He graduated with B.S. and M.S. degrees in biology from Jackson State University in 1973 and 1976 respectively. In 1980, Marvin moved his family to the city of Selma, where he worked as an assistant professor of biology at Selma University.
There, he studied the effects of Sickle Cell Anemia in African American communities of the Alabama Black Belt. In 1992, Marvin accepted a job at George C. Wallace Community College of Selma. He served as an instructor of biology and zoology until his retirement in 2012. He leaves to cherish his memory five children and four grandchildren; his former spouse; three sisters and one brother; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; and his Grace Fellowship Church family. Services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle of Praise Church.
