Health and Fitness Festival coming Saturday

The Get Fit Selma Health and Fitness Festival will return Saturday, Sept. 19 with a 5K race and 1-mile fun run at the Wallace Community College Selma gymnasium.
It will also include a free health fair that will start at 9 a.m. Those who take part will be screened for blood sugar, blood pressure, heart and breathing controls and their weight will be checked. After participants finish the screening, they will be permitted into the health and education area, where they will receive health information on a variety of topics. In a community where diabetes and other health concerns are all too common and the poverty and unemployment rate are high, this is a chance for those without the means to pay for medical services to get a free checkup.
It’s also a good place to get more information about healthcare, as the fair will highlight the many health services and resources in and around the Dallas County area.
Registration forms for the 5K and fun run can be picked up at the McRae-Gaines Learning Center on Wallace’s campus the day of the race. Early registration for the 5K is $10 for ages 13-and-under and $15 for everyone else.
Registration fees on the day of the race are $15 for those 13-and-under and $20 for everyone else.
The prerace registration fee for the fun run is $7 for all ages. On the day of the race, fun run registration will be $10.
Lunch will also be provided for a small charge, but all other activities are free and open to the public.
Race-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. For more information, email Stephanie Hamm at GetFitSelma@gmail.com or text 512-589-3735.
