Tommy Burns loves to cheer for the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturdays. This season, he’ll have the opportunity to cheer for them in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Burns, a PGA professional at the Selma Country Club, won the Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club raffle for Alabama football tickets. The raffle was put on to give students from the Dallas County area scholarship money to attend the University of Alabama.
The raffle included tickets to all Alabama home football games, free on-campus parking and pregame meals at the school of commerce.
A former golfer at the University of Alabama, Burns has loved the Crimson Tide ever since he was young. He was ecstatic to learn his raffle ticket had been picked in a pool of roughly 300 entries.
“It couldn’t have been a happier day for me,” Burns said.
Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club president Ronnie Leet, a former classmate of Burns’, said it was the third straight time a citizen of Dallas County won.
Burns plans to take his wife and potentially his grandchildren to the games. His three children, all graduates of Auburn University, aren’t as likely to receive their father’s invite. Despite having children who support the Tigers, Burns still bleeds crimson and white.
“I’m still Alabama at heart, “ Burns said. “You can’t take your heart out of it. I love Alabama to the day.”
Alabama’s first home game is against Middle Tennessee Saturday at 2 p.m. on SEC Network.
