Before the Alabama and Auburn football teams take the field for their openers this weekend, members of the Selma Quarterback Club got up to speed Monday on the Tide and Tigers.

The club held its kickoff meeting at Julius Talton’s house, which sits on the banks of the Alabama River, with guest speakers and team insiders from Rivals.com’s TideSports.com and AuburnSports.com. Andrew Bone spoke from TideSports.com while Auburn got to hear from Jay Tate and Jeffrey Lee from AuburnSports.com.

Both teams have questions going into high profile games Saturday. When Alabama takes the field against Wisconsin the biggest question is who will be the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback.

Alabama released a depth chart Monday that listed Jacob Coker, Cooper Bateman and Alec Morris as co-starters going into this weekend’s game against No. 18 Wisconsin in Arlington, Texas, but Bone is fairly confident Coker will be the starter.

“I think it is safe to say that Jacob Coker is going to be the starter Saturday,” Bone said. “It won’t surprise me if we see more than Jacob Coker in the game Saturday. We will probably see Cooper Bateman and may see Alec Morris but I think Coker will definitely get first team reps.”

Auburn also has a high profile game this weekend as the Tigers take on Louisville in Atlanta. The biggest question for most Auburn fans is how big an effect defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will have on the Tigers’ defense, which has been the team’s Achilles heel in the Gus Malzahn era.

“I think an engaged Will Muschamp could be the most important thing for Auburn this year,” Tate said. “I think they are going to be really good.”

The Selma Quarterback Club’s next meeting will be Sept. 14 when the guest speaker will be Jim Donnan. For more information on the quarterback club, call captain Ray Hogg at 875-1960 or W. Forrest Hatfield at 872-4042
